All rentals are final once your instrument has been received. At any point during your rental you may request an at home service appointment. You may also swap instruments for a larger size midterm at no cost!

New York String Source is proud to offer a direct to your door rental service. We can deliver to your home, place of work, or child’s school. Available in NYC at no charge.
How to return your instrument
Two weeks before your instrument is due for return you will receive a call and/or email from N.Y.S.S. to schedule a pick up. From the convenience of your home or office we will come to pick up the instrument.

Insurance Options
All rentals include standard Accidental Damage Insurance. This covers the normal wear and tear, this does not cover broken strings, lost accessories, damage resulting in a total loss of the instrument, theft or loss of the instrument.
Full Coverage Insurance is available at an additional cost. This covers the instrument in the event of a total loss, excluding string breakage This does not cover lost or stolen instruments.
School Year Rentals
10 month School Year rentals are September 1st to June 25th. ( School districts that begin earlier than September may start the rental period early and at no additional charge) Straight-to-School delivery is available for School Year Rentals where the school’s Main Office is willing to receive instruments.
Short Term Rentals & 12month rentals
Daily, weekly & monthly terms are available. We also offer 12 month rental terms. Full year rentals are ideally suited for committed students who practice throughout the year. But are not yet ready to purchase an instrument.
Professional Rentals
We are proud to offer instruments to industry professionals. Whether you need an instrument for a last minute performance or as a prop we can consult with you and accommodate your needs. Please inquire for more information.
Rental Refund Policy
NYSS does not offer refunds at this time, after the instrument is received. Instruments who arrive with any defect preventing proper play will be eligible for a swap. Instruments returned early will be eligible for a credit equal to the remainder of the rental period.
Size Change Policy
At any point during your rental you may request a change of size. Depending upon availability, N.Y.S.S. will switch your rental out for a new size at no cost.
Late Return Policy
If N.Y.S.S. is unable to reach you, or obtain the rented instrument N.Y.S.S. will charge the credit card on file the value of instrument.
Rent to Own Program
N.Y.S.S. is proud to partner with Saul Lima Violins to offer an exclusive rent to own program. Up to 4 years of rentals can be credited towards the purchase of a fine hand made violin, viola or cello.
